Other Worlds Austin (OWA) offers more than just great SciFi and Horror content from independent filmmakers from around the world. OWA also features lots of fun and exciting social events where OWA attendees can engage with filmmakers and other attendees. At OWA, we will never schedule our social events against programming, so that attendees don’t have to choose events over films and vice versa.

Debbie Cerda, OWA Programmer and Hospitality Director explains this unique approach:

“Our OWA team shares a passion for Science Fiction and Horror film content beyond simply watching. We enjoy discussing with our filmmakers and fans what we find engaging in our OWA content. Continuing the dialogue beyond a Q&A is what draws many of our attendees to our year-round programming as well as the festival itself. Our social events provide a comfortable setting to do just that -- relaxing and chatting over a drink is even easier and thanks to the wonderful support of our festival host Flix Brewhouse.”

A Screenwriting Workshop with Chad Archibald and Jayme LaForest

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, 10 am - 11:30 am

Location: Austin School of Film at Motion Media Arts Center
Address:  2200 Tillery Street - Austin, Texas 78723

(Open to the public, but please RSVP as a courtesy)

Join us for what promises to be a lively discussion about the relationship between directors and writers. Chad Archibald is a founder of Black Fawn Films, and director of this year’s UWA selection I’LL TAKE YOUR DEAD and last year’s Orbiter Series THE HERETICS, as well as BITE, EJECTA, THE DROWNSMEN and many more. Jayme co-wrote I’LL TAKE YOUR DEAD, THE HERETICS, and BITE with Chad.

How are ideas traded back and forth from draft to draft? How does a screenwriter collaborate with the person who can realize the idea? Does the relationship limit or expand creativity? How can a director turn off the production part of their brain to just focus on pre-production aspects?

Join ACC Assistant Professor of Gothic Literature Melissa Holton and OWA Screenwriting Director Eric Harrelson as they outline the impact of FRANKENSTEIN with a curated clipshow* and discussion. You’ll see things you know, things you had no idea existed, and you might accidentally learn something. Just promise us you won’t try it out at home.
