Other Worlds Enters Next Era
With New Brand And New Home Base
Other Worlds Film Festival announces new branding and a new home as it enters its sixth season. Formerly Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival, the new moniker reflects Other Worlds’ natural evolution as an international brand and its broad influence with smart, independent sci-fi and horror films.

“We’ve always been bigger than the idea of the spaceship and the alien head [from our original logo],” says Bears Rebecca Fonté, Other Worlds Founder and Artistic Director. “It’s always been about experiencing another world, whether it be an optimistic future, a dark alternative reality, or anywhere in between. For four days in December, our fans escape the real world and immerse themselves in creative visions from around the globe.”

The new brand and logo come from the design firm The Label Collective, who have been with Other Worlds from the beginning. “Erin Pitts and Kristin Waddington have successfully guided us from a start-up, to an emerging, and now an established festival,” says Don Elfant, Other Worlds Director of Marketing and Development. “The addition of Staci Maloney to their team has been a windfall to our new logo/brand development. We can’t thank them enough!”

Coming To A Galaxy Near You

With the new brand, also comes the announcement of a new (old) home for the venerable festival – Galaxy Highland 10 Theatre. Other Worlds launched at the Galaxy in 2014 and while the festival has grown, so has the Galaxy. It now features theaters with plush, comfy seats, plus elevated snacks at the concession stand, including beer and wine.

The move back to the Galaxy will allow Other Worlds to add a third theater for 2019, providing for more flexible programming. “We will now be able to offer repeat viewings of the most popular films as well as the always popular shorts programs,” explainsFonté. “We will also be able to build in meal breaks so guests can take advantage of the many great restaurant options in the neighborhood.”

The Galaxy’s central location was a strong selling point to Other Worlds. And a three-year commitment to the festival (and its monthly Orbiter screenings) provides the kind of stability a growing festival needs.
