AUSTIN, TX -- Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival is open for submissions to its 2016 Features and Shorts competitions. The third-year fest has established itself as one of the premier SciFi festivals in the country. OWA is firmly committed to supporting exciting filmmakers by giving them exhibition opportunities for films that are often overlooked on the film festival circuit.
Under Worlds Austin
After two years of sold out screenings, World and US premieres, and dozens of visiting filmmakers, Other Worlds Austin has decided to add a Horror sidebar to the mix. Under Worlds Austin, a sub-section of Other Worlds Austin and on the same weekend, will bring the best in fresh horror to Austin, under the same careful curatorial eye that has gotten rave reviews from audiences and press alike.
“There is a lot of cross over between Horror and science fiction,” says Dan Repp, Senior Programmer and Events Director, “but the lines tend to get blurry when it comes to the supernatural and urban legends. I'm excited that we can now program films that explore plausible horrors. One of the main rules for Science Fiction is that the story cannot take place in the world we live in. We can now find films that explore the horrors that threaten our world.”
Under Worlds Austin's goal is to find young filmmakers that push the boundaries of the horror genre, develop rich characters, and above all, build tension so we are on the edge of our seats.
