Bradley King and BP Cooper’s TIME LAPSE was a huge hit at Other Worlds Austin last year, taking home the Audience Award as well as three Cthulhies: Best Script, Best Acress (Danielle Panabaker) and Best Score. The film centers on three roommates who discover their neighbor dead and a giant experimental camera aimed at their apartment that takes pictures 24 hours into the future.
It seems the future holds more good news for this awesome pic. XLrator Media has acquired North American Rights to the thriller and will release it theatrically and VOD on May 15 on its Macabre genre label. "As our Centerpiece Film, Time Lapse really represents the best in SciFi and Indie filmmaking,” said Bears Fonté, OWA Founder and Director of Programming after film was selected by the audience.
TIME LAPSE is the feature directorial debut of Bradley King, who co-wrote the script with BP Cooper. It was produced by BP Cooper and Rick Montgomery (Happy, Texas) and edited by Tom Cross, Academy Award®-winning editor of Whiplash. The film had its North American premiere at the 2014 Seattle International Film Festival in the Catalyst Program developed by OWA friend J. Brad Wilke, and has won 25 awards at over 65 film festivals worldwide.
"Every once in a while I catch a movie that I cannot stop talking about,” says Fonte; “this year that film is TIME LAPSE, a brilliant Hitchcockian triumph. It manages to tackle a very heady topic in an incredibly simple form, and it delivers a true genre film with none of the expensive trappings those undertakings usually require.
One of the fastest-growing independent film distribution companies in North America since its creation in 2010, XLrator Media, LLC will release 25 films in 2015. Its recent releases include Academy Award-winner John Ridley’s JIMI: ALL IS BY MY SIDE starring Andre Benjamin as rock legend Jimi Hendrix and SXSW hits HOUSEBOUND and THE MULE. “After a thrilling festival run around the globe, we are beyond excited to put the North American release of TIME LAPSE into the capable and creative hands of such a forward-thinking distributor as XLrator Media,” say filmmakers Bradley King and BP Cooper in a joint statement.
In addition to Macabre, XLrator Media is also the home of the Turbo genre film labels. The company previously released such diverse films as THE MACHINE, ALLEGIANCE, AMERICAN MARY, and IRONCLAD: BATTLE FOR BLOOD. “A smart sci-fi thriller with a mind-bending premise, TIME LAPSE combines the ingenious structure of Memento with the dark comic irony of The Twilight Zone,” says XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. “It epitomizes the exciting new wave of independently produced sci-fi films that rely on original, clever stories and masterful filmmaking rather than mega-million-dollar visual effects budgets.”
