Film commentaries seem to be something that you can either love or hate. As much as I love the “behind the scenes” insight of a beloved film, I’ve never had much patience to sit through an entire commentary.
SLEEPAWAY CAMP somehow manages to pull off being simultaneously homophobic in tone (Peter’s father is revealed to be homosexual, in a flashback sequence that is bizarre and genuinely uncomfortable in its staging and implications) and hysterically homoerotic (did guys actually wear shorts that short in the 80s?)
SEX MADNESS is an 'educational' film from 1938 about the horrors of syphilis and sex! Directed by Dwain Esper, who some call the father of exploitation films, this film uses its educational stance to portray otherwise taboos topics not permitted in theaters due to the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 which only became stricter in the 1940s.
