OWA Netflix SciFi & Horror Recommendations: May 2016

As the weather keeps getting nicer, you might find yourself outdoors more often. But be sure to schedule a date or two (or three!) indoors because Netflix is adding some entertaining SciFi and Horror this May.  Remember to watch the films that are leaving Netflix before it’s too late! Happy viewing!

THE NUTTY PROFESSOR (1996)
Available May 1st

This goofy science fiction comedy which stars Eddie Murphy is a remake of the same-titled 1963 film starring Jerry Lewis.  Sherman Klump, a morbidly obese genetics professor and scientist, creates a miraculous weight-loss solution.  The results are successful but come with some fairly obnoxious side-effects leading to unfortunate consequences.

SHARK LAKE (2015)
Available May 1st

A black market exotic animal dealer, played by 80s action hero/villain Dolph Lundgren, decides to release something into Lake Tahoe in order to evade the police.  Yes, the idea of a shark residing and terrorizing residents of a lake community might be slightly ridiculous, but it certainly is entertaining!

GOOSEBUMPS (2015)
Available May 11th

Loosely based off the kid-friendly books of the same name, GOOSEBUMPS brings many of the beloved literary spooks and creatures to life in this action-packed horror comedy film.  Jack Black plays R.L. Stine, the author of the horror series, whose imaginary demons are let loose on their town.  It is a PG rated, fun flick that is great for the whole family.

SLASHER: Season 1 (2016)
Available May 17th

The cable channel Chiller has released their first original series SLASHER, a horror anthology series.  This first season follows a mysterious figure deemed “The Executioner” who is terrorizing a fictional town called Waterbury.  The series’ creator/producer Aaron Martin is quoted to say that he aims this show to tell a “modern-day  monster story.”  He has cited the influences of HALLOWEEN and IT FOLLOWS for inspiration for season 1 of SLASHER.  This all adds up for the makings of a great show!

THE OUIJA EXPERIMENT 2: THEATRE OF DEATH (2015)
Available May 22nd

The actors from the first OUIJA film are at a theater to promote their film with an overnight haunted house adventure.  However, a stage hand decides to play with a ouija board and consequently all of the theater attendees are now trapped and terrorized by demons. Alright, so perhaps this film has not had the best reviews.  But go into it with a open mind and this film will be a riot of a time.
